Our Client owns and operates a fleet of power plants located throughout the U.S. They have a current need for an experienced power plant Asset Manager.


The Asset Management role is responsible for managing the economic and operational performance of the assigned Company-managed assets, and providing input to senior management on proposed acquisition and divestiture opportunities within the power generation sector.  The position requires a depth of experience in the electric power industry and a working knowledge of all aspects of power plant asset management.  The position is located at the Company’s headquarters near Charlotte, NC and may involve significant travel.
  • Provide leadership and direction for execution of all matters involved in enhancing or optimizing the business of assigned Company-managed assets
  • Work across the organization to provide the highest value outcomes for our asset-related activities.  Decisions involve all aspects of plant level operations, commercial hedging and risk management, origination opportunities, regulatory, governmental and local political outreach, property tax implications, finance  and project debt considerations
  • Be the principle liaison regarding assigned assets
  • Assist in the preparation of investment presentations to senior management and partners
  • Provide regular updates to senior management and partners
  • Oversee the development and implementation of annual asset business & budget plans
  • Oversee/lead negotiations, preparation, execution, management, and compliance of project agreements
  • Interface with the commercial, operations, plant, risk, accounting, tax, finance and treasury departments to ensure effective communication regarding cash flow management and accounting activities
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulation, including all environmental, health and safety and NERC reporting requirements
  • Manage external consultants as required
  • Maintain an open communications atmosphere with personnel across all Company-managed assets
  • Stay actively engaged in market research activities and reassessing business objectives as markets and competitive conditions evolve
  • Maintain current, high-level understanding of the relevant ISO/RTO rules and regulations
  • Assist and provide input as required to senior management for proposed acquisition and divestiture opportunities
  • Ability to work in an open office concept
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering is required.  A bachelor’s degree in finance may be acceptable if an appropriate level of technical experience can be demonstrated.
  • 10 years’ experience in the electric power generation industry
  • Prior experience working at a power plant or in asset management
  • Past track record of executing and closing deals (Trading experience)
  • Thorough understanding of financial and physical hedging of power and fuel supply; deep understanding of 1.) Black and Scholes spread option pricing models for real assets, 2.) delta hedging, and 3.) commercial risk management systems
  • Working knowledge of financial analysis and budgeting
  • Expertise in evaluating factors related to asset and Company profitability
  • Familiarity with statistical methods to support analysis of results of operations
  • Experience with contract negotiations
  • Excellent problem resolution, leadership and management skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and work under pressure
  • Very strong interpersonal skills capable of developing relationships with counterparties including gas pipelines, fuel suppliers, equipment manufacturers (GE, Siemens, etc.), local and state governments, state environmental and regulatory bodies, tax authorities, industry off-takers, other industry players including strategic, financial and banking counterparts
  • Self-starter able to lead and drive issues to closure as well as uncover other areas for improvement
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate complicated technical issues to non-technical personnel
  • Fluent with MS Office suite of tools (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Project Management)
  • Proven team building capabilities - ability to develop, manage, and work effectively in teams
